Trafalgar Square: 8 am Sunday 26th July 2009

I duly attended to support Bob Oxtoby on the plinth this morning. The weather was ideal - the sun hadn't really broken through the clouds, but it was bright and there was no hint of rain. Trafalgar Square was rather quieter at that time than it is later in the day.

If you have an hour to spare, you can watch the video here. There is also an explanation of what Bob was trying to represent on the plinth. If you want a highlight, go to the 27 minutes point of the video and watch Bob coping (?) with that new fangled gadget ... the mobile phone.

Something like 10 different people turned up to support Bob, with other family watching on the live video stream. One gentleman had worked with Bob over 30 years ago on a project in India. I managed to see two first cousins once removed (ie they are the generation below me in other branches of the family tree) who I haven't seen for years.

To get an idea of what the plinth is like at 1 am on a Sunday morning, you need to think outside the box. Completely different!

Zero says
It was all over by 9am when I woke! It sounds as though your cousin put a lot of thought into his hour of fame-were there many people standing to listen? He has to be admired. It was good to meet up with the relatives too-I could never understand the "first removed" lark and it isn't something you could do an allocutio on is it?
