Archbishop Paulos Faraj Rahho of Mosul

Zenit news agency reports that, after praying the Angelus on Sunday, Pope Benedict XVI renewed his appeal for the release of the kidnapped Archbishop of Mosul.

"I express, moreover, my closeness to the entire Church in Iraq and in particular to the Chaldean Church, that have once again been dealt a serious blow, while I encourage all of the pastors and faithful to be strong and firm in hope."

Fr Ray, at St Mary Magdalen, Brighton has some pictures and a brief report on the funerals of the three people who were killed during the kidnapping of the Archbishop. These events remind us that the Christian church in Iraq is suffering a significant persecution that is not recognised as much as it should be. Let us pray for the safe release of Archbishop Paulos Faraj Rahho, and for the protection of Christians in Iraq at this time.
